Girls Varsity Lacrosse
Just some info for the newcomers as well as the well seasoned as we kick off our preseason preparations for the Spring 2019 season. This information pertains to Varsity, JV and Freshman. Below you will find info on Summer Preseason, Fall/Winter Preseason, Senior/Captain Practices, what to bring, Fall and winter opportunities, Tryout dates as well as communications.
Summer preseason (coach and player led) will begin on Tuesday, June 19 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am in the stadium. This is the first date that rising freshman can attend. New and experienced players are welcome. I will hold a brief question and answer session prior to the beginning of practice parents and players (8:45). Preseason are not mandatory, although encouraged. Players do not need to let coaches know if they are attending or not.
The only other confirmed preseason on the schedule is Tuesday, June 26 9:00 am to 11:00 am. We are awaiting word from the Athletic Department to confirm dates for the rest of the summer. They will be Tuesday mornings 9-11 however, there are some "blackout" dates where coaches can not hold practices (the week of the 4th). I will update this website and the calendar as soon as I know.
Fall/Winter Preseason (coach and player led) will begin once school starts back up. They will occur 1 -2 days per week. These practices are not mandatory but are strongly encouraged for those not playing other sports. Dates will come out this summer.
Senior/Captain practices are led by the Seniors/Captains with no coach. These practices occur once a week and focus on conditioning and stick skills. These occur during all off seasons (summer, fall, winter). These practices are not mandatory but strongly encouraged. Sumer dates TBD.
What to bring?
* Rising freshman should complete the Athletic Departments paperwork (including physical) prior to attending their first preseason (https://woodgroveathletics.org/main/otherad/contentID/35816219). You may also access this link on the homepage of this website under "more".
* Stick, mouth guard, goggles, cleats and/or tennis shoes, reversible pinnie, water.
- Sticks and goggles are available for use by new players (let coach know prior to practice).
- Mouth guards are MANDATORY. No mouth guard.. no practice.
- Cleats AND tennis shoes are recommended for all practices. At least have tennis shoes.
- Preferably a navy/white ror green/white reversible pinnie. Coaches will have extras for those without pinnies
Fall and Winter Opportunities are available to all players (Varsity, JV and Freshman). These include specialty one day local tournaments (Law-o-Ween, Turkey Shoot Out) as well as fall and winter leagues (Woodson Fall Ball and indoor leagues for winter). Information about these opportunities will be emailed out as dates approach.
Tryout Dates for spring season - All of our preseason practices, senior practices and fall winter opportunities are purposeful and prepare all athletes who regularly attend to be the best lax player they can be at tryouts! Tryouts will begin Tuesday, February 19, 2019. Team announcements will be made on Friday, February 22. Practices will begin Saturday, February 23, 2019. Once the season begins ALL PRACTICES ARE MANDATORY. Exceptions are made for illness and family emergencies. Varsity players are expected (mandatory) to be at practices and/or games over spring break (Friday April 12-Wednesday April 17). No practices will be held Thursday April 18- Sunday April 21.

Most parent communication is done through email. I will send out regular emails regarding practices and opportunities.
Most player communication with the coaches and captains is done through the GroupMe app. that the players can get on their phones. Last minute cancellations, practice reminders and random team bonding is done through the app.. You may send me your daughter's cell phone number so that I can add her to the Group or an existing player can add her to the Group.
